Major European activity in the fight against cancer with the Czech participation

With the end of 2021 approaching, the EU iPAAC Joint Action is also coming to an end. Its main output is an online database of projects, activities and recommendations in various areas of cancer prevention and care, to the development of which the joint workplace of the Institute of Biostatistics and Analyses at the Faculty of Medicine of the Masaryk University and the Institute of Health Information and Statistics of the Czech Republic has significantly contributed.

The Infomore.cz website has recently won the AMEC Awards, a global competition for media analysts. The project won in the category focused on effective planning, research and evaluation of communication.

A new study programme Public Health has been accredited

On 24 June 2020, MU’s Faculty of Medicine received accreditation for a new MSC study programme Public Health for 7 years. First students will start their education in this programme probably in the academic year 2021/2022.

Interactive visualisation of dental care in the Czech Republic

What is the number of graduates in the stomatology study programmes at individual medical faculties? In which regions of the Czech Republic do they work after leaving the school? How many doctor offices are run by one dentist? Are can we compare these data across the faculties? These are the questions that are answered in a new public we application, which summarises results of a comprehensive analysis in a form of interactive visualisations and which was developed by students of the Mathematical Biology study programme.

The SIMUportfolio platform presented at the AMEE annual congress

The AMEE (Association for Medical Education in Europe) annual conference, probably the biggest event focused on medical education worldwide, took place on 24 to 28 August 2019 in Vienna. A team of authors from the Institute of Biostatistics and Analyses and the Simulation Centre of the Faculty of Medicine, Masaryk University, presented an integrative platform that has been developed at the Faculty of Medicine on a long-term basis, and that provides, besides other things, a comprehensive support for OSCE (Objective Structured Clinical Examination), i.e. practical examinations of medical students.

Comprehensive cancer care networks – Test driving the model in southern Czechia

What does an ideal cancer service look like and how can countries/regions make that transformation? A European collaborative project, in which IBA FM MU was also involved [1], spent two years trying to answer this question. The solution they came up with is now being piloted in the Czech Republic, as Sophie Fessl from Cancerworld reports [2].
