A new book from the Facta Medica publishing house, entitled „Computer Applications, Systems and Networks for Medical Education“, was released in November 2014. Dr. Daniel Schwarz and Assoc. Prof. Ladislav Dušek (both from IBA MU) are editors of the book.
As the title indicates, the book deals with modern technologies in the education of medical students, physicians, and other health care professionals. The first part of the book describes the current status of e-learning in medical education, online publishing, development of interactive clinical scenarios and simulations, and recently very popular gamification of the education. Pillars of the MEFANET network, their design, development, implementation and use within the network are introduced as well. The book therefore reflects the results of mutual cooperation among Czech and Slovak medical faculties in the field of modern forms of education, which was initiated more than 8 years ago, and is indeed unique on the European scale.

The topic of data-driven decision-making was presented by the head of DDT IBA FM MU at the global conference of the European Society for Simulation in Medicine (SESAM). A digital poster with a presentation presented the experience with the introduction of data as an objective and valid basis for further decision-making in medical education at LF MU.
For the first time in history, the 16th MEFANET conference was held outside the Czech Republic in the Slovak Congress Hotel Centrum in Košice. The whole event was held in the spirit of artificial intelligence in medical education, virtual reality and there were also short presentations by regular participants about their improvement and modernization of teaching.
