Events and activities in 2015
Establishment of the joint workplace of the Institute of Health Information and Statistics of the Czech Republic (IHIS) and IBA MU, which deals with the analysis of healthcare data, was undoubtedly the most important event in 2015.
This workplace involves two main analytical teams dealing with clinical data administered by IHIS. The first analytical team focuses on DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group), aiming to develop a new classification system of hospitalisation cases as part of the process of optimisation of reimbursements for emergency beds, based on data provided by health insurance companies and reference hospitals. The second team analyses data from the National Health Registers.
There are also ongoing international research projects and related cooperation. As regards innovative methods in medical education, two projects funded from the European programme Erasmus+ were launched in 2015. IBA MU has also significantly participated in the EU CanCon (Cancer Control) project. Outputs of Czech health care facilities were selected by other EU countries as pilot models for the so-called Comprehensive Cancer Care Network. This pilot model has been progressively developed in cooperation with cancer care facilities from the South Moravian Region and the Vysočina Region.
The fourth year of the international conference European Colorectal Cancer Days was held at the end of May 2015: this event was organised in cooperation with the Office of Member of the European Parliament Dr. Pavel Poc, the United European Gastroenterology (UEG), and the Association of European Cancer Leagues (ECL). The ninth year of the November conference of Czech and Slovak medical faculties (MEFANET) again attracted a large audience of teachers and other professionals keen to widen their knowledge in the area of education of health care disciplines.
Year 2015 in numbers
By the end of 2015, the total number of IBA MU employees amounted to 92, which is a number comparable to the previous year. Nevertheless, there was a decrease in the number of assistant professors: this was mainly due to end of an ECOP programme (Education for Competitiveness Operational Programme) which focused on the development of the Mathematical Biology field of study. By contrast, there was an increase in the number of data analysts and IT workers due to the above-mentioned establishment of the joint workplace of IHIS and IBA MU.

In 2015, IBA MU workers contributed to the publication of 85 articles in journals with impact factor (IF); the average IF amounted to 2.678. Most of these publications are based on the cooperation with partners in the area of clinical and scientific research, namely the Faculty of Medicine at Masaryk University, University Hospital Brno, Faculty of Science at Masaryk University, Masaryk Memorial Cancer Institute, and others.
Summary research reports are also significant: these reports are linked to the IBA MU’s contract research.
