8th year of the MEFANET conference: virtual reality is breaking down barriers

With a slight overstatement, one could say that the 8th year of the MEFANET conference reached boundaries of the solar system, which can boast eight planets. In reality, ambitions of the Czech-Slovak cooperation in the area of medical education are more modest, but this year’s programme has demonstrated that the international cooperation surely extends beyond the former federal boundary of Czechoslovakia.

Cancer screening programmes and their informational support: situation in the Czech Republic in 2014

A special issue of Klinicka onkologie (the official journal of the Czech Society for Oncology), published in December 2014, is dedicated to the assessment of cancer prevention efforts and results in the Czech Republic. A team of authors not only described the current situation in cancer prevention programmes in the Czech Republic, but also pointed out weak spots in cancer prevention efforts.

New book on medical education and the MEFANET network

A new book from the Facta Medica publishing house, entitled „Computer Applications, Systems and Networks for Medical Education“, was released in November 2014. Dr. Daniel Schwarz and Assoc. Prof. Ladislav Dušek (both from IBA MU) are editors of the book.

Video abstract of the COPD project

IBA MU cooperates with expert medical societies on many research projects and clinical registries. A research database of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is one of them; this project is guaranteed by the Czech Pneumological and Phthiseological Society of CzMA JEP (Czech Medical Association of J. E. Purkyne).

EUROCARE-5: Survival times of Czech cancer patients are now significantly longer than before

Cancer survival still varies widely between European countries despite major improvements in cancer diagnosis and treatment during the first decade of the 21st century, according to the latest EUROCARE-5 reports. The good news for citizens of the Czech Republic is that survival times of cancer patients in this country are significantly longer than survival times of cancer patients in other East European countries.
