Book launch
The book “Data-driven decision-making in medical education and healthcare” was officially launched at the 16th MEFANET conference in Košice, Slovakia. The book is subtitled “Data rulezzz!” and summarises in 18 case studies the findings from the field of healthcare and medical education that Martin Komenda and his team of co-authors have managed to create over many years of work. Besides the introductory chapter, the entire publication is structured according to the CRISP-DM (Cross-Industry Process for Data Mining) methodology. The publication aims to provide an overview of selected data processing and visualisation projects and activities across the academic and government sectors.
At the launch, Martin Komenda reviewed the efforts that were required not only in the process of the book creation but also in its finalisation. He acknowledged the work of the entire co-authoring team and reviewers with great gratitude and humility: “I would like to thank you very much. This is not just my work. If you flip through it, you'll find a whopping 80 co-authors.”
Assoc. Prof. Daniel Schwarz, PhD, who became the official godfather of this monograph, also took the floor. “As the book was being finalised, I had the opportunity to go through it more deeply and follow Martin’s thinking. I have known him for a long time, and the whole book is built on the CRISP-DM framework,” said Dr Schwarz with a smile. He added that this methodology is an excellent approach to science, teaching and, in general, any activity you want to embrace systematically.
The atmosphere at the launch was filled with the audience’s enthusiasm and the author’s joy. At the end of the act, Daniel Schwarz wished the book a bright future: “I launch you, a book that has been created thanks to MEFANET and especially to Dr Komenda. May you bring information and joy to all, and undying glory to your authors.”
